How Biogas Works

The same chemistry as a cow's stomach — engineered for your home.

Anaerobic digestion is one of the oldest natural processes on earth. We just contain it, capture the gas, and put it to work.

01

Collect organic waste

Each day, kitchen scraps, animal manure and agricultural residue are mixed with water and fed into the digester through an inlet.

02

Anaerobic digestion

Inside the sealed, oxygen-free tank, naturally-occurring bacteria break down the organic matter over a 20–40 day retention period.

03

Generate clean biogas

The process releases methane-rich biogas, which is captured at the top of the digester and piped directly to stoves or generators.

04

Produce biofertilizer

The remaining nutrient-rich slurry — called digestate — is collected from the outlet and applied to crops as a chemical-free organic fertilizer.
